Madjo is the new rising star in the firmament of singer-songwriters. Her warm, husky and somewhat boisterous voice, her charm and unconventional songs increasingly mesmerize audiences beyond the French-speaking parts of Europe. When her first album «Trapdoor» was released last year, she was immediately compared with Sophie Hunger and Hindi Zahra. But Madjo has her own musical ideas: Following the footsteps of American songwriters such as Ricky Lee Jones and Joni Mitchell, she writes songs in English and French full of folk, soul and blues. On the lakeside stage, she is backed up by a trio, whose sparing accompaniment beautifully asserts her wonderful voice and «charme fou». (ron)
